    Thanks.

In regards to tripods, how can you tell what is good on paper?

I never got why people make such a big deal about tripods.

It's main purpose it to keep the camera steady to avoid blur. If it is reasonably sturdy and does this one main function, why pay $$$$$$ when $$ will do?

For the same reason you get an ipod instead of a cd player....

    To look cool, duh.

Well my $20 tripod is basically junk now. The threads on some of the knobs wore off, so it now wont lock in place. It was also flimsy...so when it wasnt on a flat surface it wobbles when there is wind. I hope a better tripod wont do that.

And also, there is more to a tripod than just keeping the camera steady.

That's why I said a REASONABLY stable tripod. What'd you expect from a $20 piece of equipment to hold a $1000 camera?

And...you're just going to end your argument by leaving a hanging statement? So what the hell else is it for besides keeping the camera steady? Does it serve you drinks?

    Or maybe it's this:

If you've ever used a really nice tripod, you'd know why. Fluid heads, pan/tilt, ball heads/etc. quick release plates that are actually machined, not plastic, tripod heads taht will handle a lot of weight are more expensive, good tripod legs, sturdy, heavy or light. Versatility. Some tripods are easier to set-up than others, they can reverse, or lean over, etc. carbon fiber, blah blah blah..

Why do people buy expensive cameras when disposables will take pictures? Why do people buy fast and expensive cars when a beater will get you from point a to point b?

did i mention build quality? i rather pay 100-200 for a well built tripod with machined/milled parts once than a plastic tripod for 50$ that 'll have to replace down the line for another 50.

I'm happy with the $10 tripod I got off of Amazon. In a few years when it's junk, I'll go buy another one.

Never said the $20 tripod was used for that camera.

What argument? Is it not common knowledge that a tripod does more than hold a camera still?

:dunno: You live and learn. That $20 tripod was bought a few years ago for a $120 digicam.

I've decided on the 9001ut if anyone cares. :o

why buy a benz instead of a kia? they both get to from point a to b and the speed limit is 60? Why buy a professional body when the walmart digicam interpolates to the same megapixel? Why buy Leica, Canon, Nikon, Zeiss glass when quality plastic lenses can be had?

You obviously don't own nice equipment or you'd know how important of an investment a good tripod is. I've had the $50 costco deal and now I have a Bogen Neotec where the legs alone were 300 and I have 3 tripod heads all at $70 each, and still will have to go get yet another set of legs for a different camera. I'm not going to set a $4k camera with a $8k lens on a $20 tripod, even if it just supports it

Good tripods allow you to focus downward for macro work or copy art, allow you to get low profile shot inches above the ground and actually stand up to the elements.

now :gtfo: until you remove the large sharp object you sat on and learn to do your homework instead of coming in here and thinking you know everything.
