I was thinking about getting a tripod to get less shaky pictures from my Rebel XT, but are they worth it?

The question isn't whether you should get one... but "which one should you get" and "why haven't you bought one yet" :bigthumb:

any shitty 20 dollar tripod is way better than having no tripod. I've been using my shitty quantaray tripod since I got my XT and have used it non-stop. probably the most important 20 dollars I've spent on this hobby.

while on the subject, has anyone used one of those gorilla pods? the tripods that have flexible legs that can wrap around anything. I'm wondering if they'd be worth it for either the camera, or for off-camera flash. Anyone with any experience?

  14. I always bring my tripod when I shoot interior or landscape... or even a panorama

Tripods are one of those areas where your budget is actually the limit. you can spend$100 on some crap tripod and it will do, or you can spend several hundred and get something that will never need to be replaced in your lifetime. It depends on how much you will use it ( and it should be used more often than you think) and how much you have to spend. Consider it as important as a good piece of glass. Spend just slightly more than you can afford.

$100 is quite a bit for a "crap tripod"

$100 would get you something pretty decent, "crap tripod" should be reserved for $50 > tripods

don't cheap out on a tripod but you also don't need to spend a lot of money. basically, skip the best buy tripods and don't think you have to spend $400-500 on one either.

I have a SLIK 700dx that I paid $120 for. I could have got the 500dx for about $80 and still would have been quite happy.
