We heading to Brandenton but decided to go to Davis Island instead....

Mostly just to get away and relax out by the airport a bit. When I parked I was changing out some CD's and noticed I had my camera so I minus whale take some pics

Canon powershot A540, I hate point and shoots.... Combination of shitty weather/Sky + shitty camera + shitty newb = this

Started trying to capture the barge... I could not get it to light up without having too much light, I gave up and lightened it in LR
    [IMG]

    washed out colors

this is at 10x zoom, only has a 4x optical zoom :o

eh, damned camera was sideways on the minipod, oh well

My favorite of all the pics, this is a crop of a set of silos that were 1/4 mile away ish, its the only part of the photo that had enough light to work with, and it was so noisy that it only worked decently in BW...

felt something brush my leg while I was crouched

    Aww moussah awww

The tree is a distraction I know, and this looks very post-cardish which isnt what I wanted, but settled for after some PP

    even worse

Not the best I've ever taken at night.... I'm not happy with ANY of them...
    Are you?

Not looking for C&C on everything, just general tips/idears.

your post processing needs some assistance but not everyone can be experts. Im still trying to get a feel for some good techniques.

Some of those are looking pretty noisy.

Did you underexpose and try to bring it back?

The camera itself is pretty noisy, I hit them with noise ninja and thats all I could get before it was too blurred

    What camera and lens?

The last one is super noise. They all look pretty underexposed actually.

    Canon Powershot A540 :wtc:

I am getting a good accident check soon and want to get an SLR then, I do good with film (using a 35mm Minolta that my dad has had for ages) but this little camera only gives satisfying results with color about 1/4 of the time no matter how I shoot it

anything above ISO200 is hella noisy but even some of the 80's come out hella noisy

    Its hit or miss

I'm sure there are some as I've seen some phenominal pics (such as the ones Fusion Z06 posts) but my ideal place has been blocked off by a drydock now :( so I was justy out exploring and found that.

Channel Drive on the wall right near the playground/baseball field

Go onto Davis Island and go down to Biscayne Blvd, turn left and go all the way down, thats channel drive... I Wanted to get closer but everywehre I wanted to stop and try to shoot there was someone there and/or something in the way...

I'm going to try to get some better shots from the north side of the city or the east side though, I just have to explore and find some places, channelside parking garage used to be great but now they have those towers in the way

I do have good days and I have bad days, with a P&S no matter how good of a photographer you are, there are going to be more bad days than good :mamoru:

Especially a little cam like this, but it was cheap and it does what I want it to do, it captures the moment and with a litltle bit of PP SOME things can look good

And for the comments on the last pic, thats ISO800 i believe... my batteries were dead and I was trying to get the houses, I think its 800 at 1second f2.6 and then atuo level/colors and 2% shadows, noice ninja... save... Was going to delete but kept it
