and man i'm feeling it today!
I did lateral and front raises with plates and dumbbells, but with the plates i used my grip to try to hold them horizontally, parallel to the floor.

with the smaller dumbbells, i held them but the end and also lifted and tried to make them parallel to the floor. Not only was leverage a disadvantage in each of these exercises, but it also helped workout my grip.

I also did the iron cross/crucifix, and that was crazy hard and tiring.
sounds confusing maybe, but it worked out well.

don't know what you guys are talking about but for side raises try keeping the back end of the dumbell higher than the front. it works really well

i wasn't holding the dumbbell the tradtional way- i was holding the end of the dumbbell and gripping it hard so it doesn't fall out of my hand.

    i dont understand

but on a side note, when doing front raises with a db, there is more stimulation of the front delt if you hold the dumbbell perpindicular to the floor - palms facing each other, if you will (when doing both sides at the same time).

i was just talking in general

try holding it the standard way (use less weight. I can do 65/70s for shoulder db presses and only us 20 or 15 for side raises)

hold it at your side like normal and then tilt the front down and when you raise to the side keep the front part down still. it will remove ur front delt from the exercise and really hit the medial one

pretty sure this technique was from t-nation or something... i've done them this way ever since. if you don't understand just tell me and ill try making a video

I was holding it like this while doing laterals
    [IMG]

give that a shot- your hands want to give up holding them like that parallel to the floor as you do then, but my forearms and hands are actually sore now too.

Also imagine a 25 lbs plate and holding it so it's sideways too.

good for wrist strength, but if your hands get too tired to hold them that way, i would switch back to a normal grip to at least not sacrifice the shoulder portion of the workout
