End of my second week of Jiu Jitsu last night and we worked on Triangle Chokes. I was having some trouble with the guy I was paired up with and was wondering if anyone else has had this problem. This guy is big with a tree trunk of a neck. Durring the demonstration my teacher showed us on bigger guys you can't just whip your legs up and expect a triangle, and to grab your leg you have over to pull him down and also make sure your leg is over the neck, then finish the move with your other leg and pull down on the head. Problem I kept having was, even when I would pull my leg down and towards me, I wasn't getting on his neck, it was across his back. He felt the pressure but it wasnt choking him. One of the purple belts mentioned my leg was across his back and I need to kind of turn my body with my hips to get the leg over the neck which I for some reason was having a hard time doing. Anyone have any advice on slapping a triangle on a guy bigger then you or should I expect some more luck once my flexibility improves and be able to pull my leg more towards me when starting the move?
