I'm on the treadmill pretty much everyday, trying to lose weight and increase cardio fitness. I do the "weight loss" program, which essentially goes:
    2 mins warmup,
a minute walking flat, 2 minutes walking uphill, a minute walking flat, a minute fast *repeat for duration of program
    2 mins warmdown

I'm currently doing level 2 on this program. This gets my heart rate above 135 for most of the time. I'm currently doing 24 minutes on the treadmill.

Question is: it's time to either lengthen the time, or increase the level (which I think just increases the steepness of the incline in the "climb" parts) ... which should I do, considering my goals?

increase time.. push for 40 mins, then an hour... only then will you start really burning the calories.

if you're doing 25 mins on level 2 now, stick to that level, but get to 35 mins. Then 45 mins, then an hour.

I'm in no way qualified to give advice ;)

If you're serious about weight loss, it's more than just exercise. Just as important is diet.

    See a nutritionist too ;)

I am. Don't walk to fuck my knees with running. From my understanding, cardio is simply to burn calories. Therefore eating better AND doing cardio is better than eating better alone, plus you don't have to cut the quantity of food so much that you'd go crazy.

by eating better, you need to eat in calorie deficit.

eating better, but the same amount of calories won't do that much.

You will burn calories walking, but you need to lengthen the time for sure.

depends on heart rate this current regime is inducing

    BUT

try pushing up the intensity once a week, see how your heart reacts, working a bit harder once a week will increase your overall stamina quicker, you don't want to just fall into the same routine and never pushing yourself that bit further.

go swimming also if you want to get some weight down, push yourself and burn extra calories without the impact you get from running,

Running is a harsh impact sport, even when I was 16 weighing 140lbs I damged my knees pretty badly from the impact,

I do a 3 minute jog, 7 minute walk, then jump on the elliptical for 30 minutes. I keep my calories burned per minute above 10 while on the elliptical.
I don't even know why i really do the treadmill, I guess its just there to ease me into the elliptical crosstraining program.
