Okay, I will put it in my hard-sided suitcase with the magazines separate, yes? (Can the mags be loaded?)

Then I bring it unlocked to the check-in and the agent gives me a paper to put inside, right?

Then I bring it to the TSA people, they inspect and then lock it, right?

Just want to make sure. TIA.

Tagged for info. It seems that everywhere I fly doesn't honor my CCw.

Magazines don't have to be separate. If they are in the same case as the firearm, they cannot be loaded.

I put my pistols in a hard sided pistol case (cheapy plastic that came with my 1911) mags out of gun, unloaded, slide locked open to make it easier to show it's unloaded. Ammo is in the factory boxes NOT in the pistol case, elsewhere in my suitcase.

I then have a lock on the pistol case, and I run a cable lock thru that case into my suitecase so it can't be easily pulled out without anyone seeing.

Never had a problem with this, I've flown this way 10+ times. Also print out a copy of TSA and the specific's airlines rules and carry them with you just incase.

Good thinking. I don't have a hard pistol case, unfortunately.

How do you cable-lock it to the suitcase? I guess I could epoxy a little eyelet or something into the side. Hm.

I looked online, couldn't find an American policy on firearms; just figured it was the same as TSA's. :dunno:
    Edit: :uh: Found AA's.

most hard cases have places you can run a cable

Nono I meant how do you attach the cable to the inside of the suitcase?

Also - if you were going for a week, like me, and only planned to go shooting once, would you bring a cleaning kit with you or just wait until you got home? I'm thinking about the latter.

I never bring cleaning stuff. I'd get a cheap pistol box to be safe, should run $10-20. Everyone interprets the rules differently.

My suitcase has a loop of fabric/zipper inside that I loop thru, it could be cut easy, but they couldn't pull it and stash it under their shirt without anyone noticing.
