According to exrx.net, the trapezius muscle is a back muscle. However, when you look at it you'd think it's a shoulder muscle.

    http://www.exrx.net/Lists/ExList/BackWt.html#anchor125439 (in the 'back' group)

Just so it's clear you guys know which muscle I'm talking about:

This *is* the trapezius muscle, right?

So is it back or shoulder? and also, what are the best exercises to hit it? I do shrugs using a dumb bell.

traps are part of your back, heavy BB shrugs and deadlifts are fine.

How heavy is heavy? At the moment I use 50lbs dumb bells on each arm and shrug.

How many reps do you do? Don't do just dumbells. Do front barbell shrugs, behind the back barbell shrugs. Anytype of close grip cable rows will also workout the traps. A lot of your back rows work your traps also.

Thanks for the ideas. I currently do 3 sets of 8 reps using 50lbs dumb bells once a week.

heavy is relative. But if you're doing 3 sets of 8 no problem, then start going heavier. If you're not adding weight to your lifts over time, you won't be growing.

If your not changing up the rep scheme the body is going to get accustomed to it.

I'll look better than him in 2 months... you'll see.

By the way, I just started overhead shrugs like a month ago and I gotta say I love em. They hit the back of my traps real good.

I'm going to have to disagree with you there. It is not that hard to achieve that much muscle but having that low of bf and mainting requires a decent anmount of work. Also, genetics plays a part in the appearence of muscles. Take the bicep for example, Arnold had huge peaks due to his exceptional genetics but I am willing to bet there are guy with stronger biceps but a longer/flatter peak due to their genetics. So basically I see it as he has decent genetics and the discipline to maintain a healthy body, if it were easy everybody would look like that.

Witty comeback. Lets see your pics standing exactly like he is. Lets see how proportional you are and how FULL your muscles look. I've already seen your pics so don't bother for me.

If it wasn't hard no one would be arguing with you. He is dense.
