Having trouble with this. Anybody left eye dominant and right handed? How do you shoot?

Last time I did right eye open, right hand and got a few. But I kept on getting different advice from various people, IE keep both eyes open, shoot left handed, blah blah and I am not sure what to follow.

Id like any tips on what to try next time I go out.

Fire left handed. Ive shot a few games like this and after the first few shots Im pretty well adjusted.

    Im rather ambidextrous though.

For shotgun what I've seen people put a tiny piece of scotch tape over their left lens of their shooting glasses. Forces you to squint your left eye thus transfering dominace to the right eye. The squinted eye still gathers light thus helping overall vision.

Nothing wrong with learning to shoot left handed as this would be better if you transitioned to a scoped rifle where cross eye dominace is a much bigger problem.

Train the eyes or train your arm basically, just choose what feels better.

+1. I'm in the same boat, but I have complete control over both eyes and can shoot fine with my right eye. Time and practice is all it takes.

I had a nice long response typed up, and then my computer decided to run updates...

Anyways, tape over the left eye until you can control it is the way to go. Although many competitive and circuit clays shooters still use tape, or a dot over their weak eye. Seems to make me focus faster than by closing an eye.

Just remember though, when you can only focus with one eye, don't raise your head off the gun to watch the clay break, lol

I am left eye dominant and right handed. What I do is keep both eyes open to pick the bird up and start my swing, then close the left eye before I shoot. I can't shoot both eyes open for shit, but having the left open to pick up the bird really helps me. :wavey:

    Thanks for the advice.

I'm definitely going to try the tape idea.

Right now I think it would be easier to train my eyes than to try to shoot lefty, but I will give both some time to see what feels good man

I'm the same way. I've started shooting left handed more, but it still feels fucking weird. I really don't know what else to do though.

I got a blinder from Midway to clip onto my glasses to cover my left eye. I get a lot of strange looks, but it works well.

So do you have to use it every time you shoot? Or does your right eye eventually become dominant?

I prefer my tape towards the nose, that way you can shoot with both eyes open, but then when you look down the barrel, you only sight with your right eye.

I keep both eyes open and am right handed/left eye dominant. I can shoot pretty well.

Every time I shoot rifle. Shotgun and handgun isn't a big deal for me.
