    I'm looking for a way to make a background image/background of a table transparent. Just a solid color. How would I do this? Photoshop? Css?

    Here's an example. The background of the boxes is dark but you can see through it.

    in pshop, new file, paint it whatever color you want, in the layers change the opacity to 50%, save as png and you are laughing.

    [IMG]
    upload to server, set as table background image and profit.

    (as kingtoad was first to mention)

    here's what you can do with CSS3:
    Code:
    div.boxwhatever
    {
        background: rgba(0,0,0,0.5);
    }

    But don't do that, because the majority of your viewers won't see it ;)

    make sure you save the .png as 32bit or the alpha transparency might not be kept in the file

    auto-detect (in paint.net) usually works fine

    Probably to late but I had site where I used a background pic in the first TD specified thru the TD tag. Then I put a nested table in that and made the TD's in the second table transparent with a solid color (grey). Gave a cool floating table type effect just like in that example.
