Not sure of a program that does exactly that...but if we're only talking a few songs here, you can download Audacity, then record the song using the Wave out mix, then export as an mp3.

From the songs I've done, I can't tell a difference.

i just downloaded the program. i feel as though the program can't even read M4P formated music. when i hit the record button, all you hear is a sharp noise for a split second.

Don't play the song using Audacity, play the song using whatever you used initially...I'm guessing ITunes.

Select "Wave Out Mix" in Audacity, then press record. Next, go to ITunes, and play the song. Audacity will record anything that is going to your computer's speakers, so make sure no other sounds are played during recording.

There used to be a program called Hymn that could break the iTunes encoding (which I have no problem discussing, because it has nothing to do with stealing), but it doesn't work anymore. You can still burn a CD and rip the CD to mp3 -- a "direct" converter would just convert M4P => WAV => MP3 anyway, so it's the same effect and the same amount of degradation.
