Soon I will be entering the Sheriff's academy, I will only have weekends off, I am kind of worried about loosing to much weight with PT every morning and stuff, being that it's like a full-time job keeping my weight on. The academy is going to be 6 months long. What would be my best option for training on sat/sun? I was thinking an upper/lower split? any other advice you have would be helpful. I can also just say fuck it and take 6 months off if training only weekends is useless.

Personally I'd do Push/Pull for a situation like that.

I know its gonna be very stressful for 6 months, but is there any chance you can do something like the thug workout during the week? and hit an upper/lower on the weekends

Ill be going to cop school late in the year (its a long process toget into RCMP) and u work out pretty much everyday becuase it is mandatory and need to run between 20-30km a week.

What kind of academy is this and what kind of training?

    sat upper
    sun lower

Stick to the basics and compound movements

    example

    saturday
    barbell bench 3 sets
    pullups 3
    deads 3
    standing military 3
    nose breakers 2
    barbell curl 2

    sun
    squats 4
    front squat 4
    lunges 3

something like this, pick things you like to do. Dont get nuts with the weight either, take a rep range of 8ish, and also dont train to absolute failure, the pt shit they do plus this could burn you out fast. Just get a pump and keep the intensity moving. Fast pace.

Good luck with the school jeff, i like the commitment you got

if you mean the Sacto academy, you will either be studying or have to come in each weekend. In the beginning you normally have weekends off, but by the end you'll be going nearly seven days a week when they add in weekend EVOC's and range days. You will lose muscle mass and start to acquire more of a "runner's build" as the academy goes on (they'll run you into the ground)...but you can snap out of that afterwards.

Ya that's what my roomate keeps telling me, he works for Roseville sheriff now. He said it will be more like one day a week that you have free at the most, i'm going to study my ass off and try to squeeze in 2 days a week, i think i can do it.

    Thanks for the info Pur.

    EDIT: What are nosebreaker's?

i didn't read the whole thread, but my friend is in santa clara sherriff's academy right now, and it seems that you'll be getting enough workouts in the academy and working out on your only time off (if you can really call it that) will be the last thing you want to do. they work you pretty hard, it sounds. if you do work out, i'd agree with noquarter and keep it simple and don't overdo it

I know what you are going through.

I went through the Fire Academy here, one of the most PT involved ones in the state. I lost tons of weight, but got pretty ripped. Even with my shakes and what not, everything was burned off for fuel. By the time PT/academy was over by days end I just needed rest, same with weekends.
