GUN Trading for a shotgun, which one?

Discussion in 'On Topic' started by Market Garden, Jan 7, 2009.

  1. This guy I work with has been after me to sell him my old BMX for a long time. I really don't have a use for it, so I was gonna sell it to him for like $100. He doesn't have a lot of money, so he offered to trade me a shotgun of his for the BMX + $50. He has 2 that I can choose from and he says they're both in good shape. He wasn't too clear on the specifics, but here it goes:

Shotgun #1 is a Remington 870, 20ga. It's a wooden stock model, and he's unsure of the barrel length.

Shotgun #2 is a Mossberg 20ga pump action of some sort. It's got a synthetic stock and apparently came from the factory with 2 barrels, one long and one short. He has both barrels for it.

My inclination is to take the 870 assuming it's in decent shape as he has described. What would you guys pick?

    what can't you?

  5. Who knows. One can never have too many guns though, and for $50 and a BMX I haven't ridden in 5 years I figure I can't go wrong.

  6. I doubt either one is worth much. :hs:

I agree. I've hunted Dove, Turkey, Quail, and shot a little bit of trap with my old single shot 20gauge.

    Very versatile little guns.

i was told by a very reputable shotgun guy that 20ga has the same terminal ballistics as a 12ga out to (i think he said 25 or 50 yd).

as long as you know where your shots are going it shouldn't be a problem. i'd pick slug over shot for a 20 though but it will get the job done just fine.

Go with the 870. The 20 guage is OK if you want to use it as a defensive gun and you can compensate by picking better ammo. The main thing is defensive ammo slection is much more limited for 20 guage. If your wing shooting, or busting clays the 20 guage is very nice.

    I myself much prefer a 12 guage. I would take the $100 over a 20 guage 870

We already have 2 shotguns that sit next to the bed, a 12ga 870 on Market Garden's side and a 12 ga 500 on mine.

I'd imagine that this would just be another gun for the stable to have for giggles.

    :mamoru:

You rode the BMX til you were 20?
    :rofl::rofl:

  18. Ok, more like I haven't ridden it for 7 years.

  19. So I ended up trading the BMX, an old snowboard of Laurel's and $20 for this. It's old and ugly, but will make a fine turkey/pheasant gun. It's a full choke and a 28" barrel, so I'm guessing that's what it was intended for.

I wish my wife was still on OT. :hs:

She always used to say stuff about how cool she thought I was and somebody banned her because they thought she must be an AE.

Now she thinks OT is just retarded. :(
