I got a 19" Elo LCD Touchscreen for work, as we're converting one of the apps I do to touchscreen interface and I need one to test it for usability (big buttons, etc.). And its neat as fuck, because when you are typing long shit, it is more convenient to touch the screen than to reach over and disrupt your typing going for the mouse.

    That is all.

I helped install some Panasonic Toughbooks with touch screens in the SO vehicles here, they are OK. I have fat fingers so sometimes it would take me 4 or 5 tried to close a window.:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

Dude, no kidding. If the UI is not designed for them, they are problematic. Closing windows SUCKS.

That is actually why I have to have one :) To make sure our apps don't suck for em.

Would it be acceptable to tether a stylus to the screen? It would keep it cleaner, in addition to making users more accurate with their screen taps.

stylus == anti-christ. It's so stupid for 99% of guis. Unless you are doing handwriting or drawing (in which case it had better be pressure-sensitive) then you don't want a stylus.

A stylus would be less convenient than the mouse. Think about it.

Got an 8" touchscreen molded into the dash of my car connected to my old via epia based carPC... gotta say for an automotive application touchscreen is the only way to go, that with a custom programed UI (by me)

yeah, we had those 25 years ago at western union telegraph co
i used to be teletype tech q.c. there along time ago.

i wonder tho, like me, i use the machine for studio work. mousing around a bit, i wonder if your arm woud get tired from all day holding it up to the screen, it seems it would, cause i have had my hand cramp up, on the mouse button from all day using to edit sounds, using cakewalk sonar
its da bomb too, i'm a full time musican slant producer repairer tech now, fyi.
ya know what i mean? from the pounds of muscle and bone in your arm against gravity.

I have no problem using a stylus for mousing. Maybe you just have big clumsy hands.

that makes no sense. a stylus was designed to allow "big clunky hands" to more easily manipulate small/tight guis.

But that doesn't change the fact that a stylus is ghey.

Great Wayne got his hot little hands on the computers and programming sub forum.

The touch screens we're using aren't all that bad, you don't get fatigued using them.
