I want to get one while I still can. I don't know how much they cost. I'd like something around 500 if I can get it, and I don't care if it's used. How much are they normally?

  2. It's totally dependent on what you want. If you want a decent AK, you're in the ballpark for price. If you want an AR, you'd better add a few hundred to your budget.

    WASR AK-47

Cheap to buy - Cheap to shoot - Easy to maintain - If you miss the target so what - Squeeze a few more times.

I agree but would like to add to it. I think the saiga is the better built rifle than the wasr but the OP is preparing for a ban that he feels is imminent he needs to understanding that if the new ban were to be like the old ban, the gun would need to be built as an "assault weapon" prior to the ban. If he buys a sporter configured saiga today and wants it to be "ban safe" (again lots of speculation here) he needs to have it converted to an assault weapon configuration before the ban.

At the rate it's going, they will probably be sold out by next month.

First of all, it's not an assault rifle. If it doesn't have a selector switch (ability to choose between semi-auto, full-auto, burst), it's not an assault rifle.

Semantics aside, $500 is plenty to buy an AK47. You'll need about $700-$800 for a base model AR15. But don't buy anything right now. Prices have soared on consumer fear and some price gouging.

assault by definition means it is offensive to see/view

so anything that resembles military will be viewed as assault from the liberals

They'd think a black Derringer was an assault pistol. The opinions of idiots and retards mean bupkiss to me.

actually there is no real definition of "assault rifle".
Militaries worldwide use semi auto weapons in combat as well as select fire too.

now if you had a rifle that just jumped up and beat the shit out of you in the middle of the night unprovoked, THAT would be an assault rifle.
(well, actually an assault and battery rifle)

well there's a gun show in pasadena texas december 6th. I think I'll go then. I'm kind of torn, I mean I really only want an "assault" rifle because I don't think I'll be able to get one soon. I'd rather a handgun as it is more practical, and I get get a conceal carry. Depends on how much everything is at the gun show.

There's a pretty decent group buy going at arfcom. $600 gets you the upper, lower parts kit, and stock. Add a $100 stripped lower and you've got yourself an AR15.
