Utorrent is great, azureus is another good alternative. Anything else is sub par.

go to http://www.slyck.com/bt.php for some great torrent downloaders. I myself would reccomend either Yet ABC or Bittornado because they barely use any system resources, especially the latter. For Windows users, Azureus is slower than the others because it runs on a java client while ABC and Bittornado run on the Python scripting language and therefore runs on all operating systems. Make sure that while you're downloading torrents that you also use peer2guardian (google it: it's free) or if you decide to you Azureus make sure you download the safepeer plugin to protect yourself from hackers/viruses/trojans etc. etc. Also make sure you scan files every once in a while as well.
