For univ my sis needs a external HD to use with the Macs at school. Well everything has been good, until now. She plugs it in and the lights all come on and you can hear the HD power up, but it will no longer show her files or even the partition on it....

I am NOT a mac guy, and we do not have any mac I can use to troubleshoot this issue. I have plugged the HD into a Win32 system and it detects the new hardware, but wont show the partitions (using a tool that allows win32 to access Mac filesystems).

What tools can I try to recover the hd and its files? Perferably Win32 tools I can try as I dont have access to a MAC.
She would be out 4-5 months of work if she losses everything on it....

if the drive is twatted then it really wont show up in windows (through macdrive or other)

Best bet is to get her to use disk utility on the mac at school, the drive may be fine but not mountable. If it show up in disk utility then you should be able to run a verify on it and see/fix the problem.
