Left work "sick", got to the range in time to put a few hundred rounds through the AR and the .22lr. She was shooting pretty well at 50 yards. Almost as well as me (however I didnt bring my glasses so I saw two of everything  ), she loves the .22 though. I might get her a 10/22. By the end of the day she was busting my balls for not engaging the safety, so she's pretty good about the rules.

She was mad we didnt have time to shoot the G17

You've been on OT long enough. You should know the rules by now.

I want an optic for my AR pretty bad now. I'm thinking aimpoint or eotech, something I can put on my SBR when its done.

    Buy once, cry once.

    Go Aimpoint.

There is no denying that an Eotech reticle and larger, and thereby faster. However, the difference in speed between an Eotech and Aimpoint with correct brightness setting is minimal.

Durability however, is another story. I've used a 552 with satisfactory results, but also had one 552's seal break for no particular reason and start fogging. Eotech fixed this for me (this was before they were bought out by L-3 Communications) and I was able to sell it off. I had the 553 and that had to get a battery spring replaced after SOCOM noted that the sight would shut off from recoil... And I had a 557 with a BDC, but in practical use, the BDC just made the sight cluttered as hell and confusing to use. Also, AARs of carbine classes almost always mention an Eotech or two going down.

Battery Life is another thing. If you use Lithium batteries, you'll get nearly 1000 hours on the AA model Eotechs... but then the sight's automatic low battery feature doesn't work! If you use the N-cell battery Eotechs, have a big supply. The newest Aimpoints last 5 years on the 8/12 setting, 10 months on the 10/12 setting.

My take on the Eotech vs. Aimpoint thing is this:

All the leaked SFOD-D videos and pictures show Delta folk using Eotechs. For them, the slight advantage of the larger reticle matters, because they are constantly shooting folks. Alumni like Kyle Lamb of VTAC, Jim Smith of Spartan Tactical, etc all seem to be big fans of the Eotechs. I'm sure these guys have enough pull to have a constant supply of batteries and replacements.

However, it seems that everyone else uses Aimpoints for the durability and battery life. I feel that the Aimpoint's strengths of durability and battery life outweigh the Eotech's strengths.

hmm thanks for the info. in all honesty i'll probably try both, but i'm leaning towards aimpoint first. where are you seeing these leaked delta vids?

I had both, switched to aimpoint. Personal preference.

Which range did you go to?

  19. Me too. I've heard plenty of "my EOTech died" stories, I don't recall ever hearing a "my Aimpoint died" story.
