Just got my Canon EF 100-400mm 4.5-5.6 L IS USM, and decided to take it to the Millville NJ Air and Car show.

Still getting used to the lens (LOVE IT!), but here are some shots:

    And for some auto racing...

Absolutely no editing, I just got back and threw them online.

Still saving up for a Pitts, so for now I'll just have to take pictures and fly what I can.

    Any CC greatly appreciated! :)

some good plane shots, but the car ones need more panning for a better sensation of speed. :o

I was really tossed up between that lens and the 70-200mm f/2.8. I ultimately choose the 70-200 but maybe if I got cash to burn ill get the 100-400

    The plane pics are sweet.

    Nice pictures.

Looks like you shot in JPEG and posted without any editing though. Could be a lot more excited pictures if you show them in RAW and did some editing instead.

    Nice shots of the planes.

Stupid question: The 400mm lens there a full format lens or for the smaller sensor size? Basically, is 400mm the true focal length?

Just curious. I've got a full format 300mm lens on my camera and it puts it in 425mm territory, which I find is very convenient. I am looking forward to taking it to the Russian airshow (MAKC) in '09. I shot the '07 MAKC show with 35mm film which for several reasons didn't come out too great.

400 is the true (full frame) length.

Being that my camera is an APS-C, I was shooting an equivalent of 640 mm.

Smeghead - you are right, it was in JPEG and when I got home I uploaded those straight off the CF card.
Once I process them I'll repost if you'd like.

tetsuo - I got some indy shots near the end of the day, where I tried a lower shutter speed and more panning. I'll get those posted in here soon too.

I'll start processing the indy ones after the aircraft shots are finished... could be awhile.
