Mr Genius told me that it was the logic board. Great. Since im out of my warranty period, he quoted me at over $1,000 to get it repaired. Of course, the next words out of my mouth were, "Youre fucking kidding, right?"

No, he wasnt. I spend almost $3,000 bucks on a laptop only to have it fail and cost me another $1,000 to fix it 17 months later.

Has this happened to anyone else? What can I do about this? Im not spending that money to have my computer fixed when its not even 2 years old. That is fucking stupid considering I could get a brand new macbook for the same price, but then again, why would I just want another product that could fail and cost me even MORE money? Not only that, but I know people still using 4 year old apple notebooks with absolutely no problems.

Im about to give apple care a call and see if they can do anything :madfawk:

Laptops are prone to failure, and it sucks ass. You can get logicboards cheaper elsewhere and do them yourself I believe, but in the end it's probably best to sell it as is and buy something else. Applecare of course helps, but hindsight and all that.

My wife was quoted a similar figure to fix her ethernet port (board replacement only solution) that had become loose and wouldn't hold a cable. Such is the way of the laptop :hs:

thats why i put up the money for applecare when i bought my macbook.
pretty much your stuck with either fixing it yourself, dealing with it, paying out the ass for apple (or another company for that matter) to do it, or sell your MBP as is

. I never buy a single Apple product without an AppleCare if I am planning on keeping it over a year.

I went back later in the day and talked to the manager of the store. He said he would go ahead and take care of it for me at no charge

When I would disconnect the computer from the charger, it would just automatically shut after about 5-10 minutes.
