I dont have any exciting video or anything cool, but I figured if timmy can make 350z posts in here I can share a few shitty camera phone pics from my trip.

Took 1st place at the Claudio Franca Jiu-Jitsu By The Sea Invitational. Wasnt a huge tournament, but there were some good matches, took all saturday to get through white and blue belt matches.

I won the adult white belt medio division. Dont remember exactly how the matches went but there were 3 rounds, I had a total of 4 points scored on me, and I scored a total of ~30 on my opponents. No submissions, as I didnt train at all for it and was in terrible shape. But I remembered Chechen's philosophy of sweep and stall hahah. I managed to work in some good sweeps and hold my mount and back control well while conserving energy. On top of that it was a beautiful day in Santa Cruz and we hit the beach after, good times.

    On the podium

hahah, thats not my philosophy.. but thats just what i end up doing to win most of the time. When you have no cardio like I do, it works well..
I have some pretty decent sweeps, what can i say.. haha

I almost had several, but didnt want to burn myself out trying to finish something and be dead for the next match. Had a tight triangle, he flopped out of bounds, and we got stood back up. Had an arm triangle locked up from mount, switched to side, sprawled on it, heard gurgling but no tap and time ran out.

Would have liked to compete in the blue belt division, but im still in that wierd limbo where I dont have a school to train at that can give me a belt. :hs:

How many tournys have you been in before?

LOL third place got owned in that pic and 2nd place looks like he's trying to hold his head up in pride without crying. Nonetheless congratulations dude.

Winning is winning, even if it's nothing flashy. Honestly better position and sweeps are a much better foundation than crazy submissions. I noticed in competitions people generally don't go for submissions as much as I'd expect. Sounds like you tried some good ones, that didn't stick that well.

You'll be ruining peoples careers like Crowbar in no time bro!

Shitty ref, IMO. When a match goes out of bounds, I call time, study the position for a few seconds, and return them exactly where they were (except in the middle), grips and all. Not when they're in a crazy push pull standing battle, that just gets back to the middle started over, but on the ground, fleeing the mat is not rewarded.

It's sick when people are able to make a take down look like it was a pull to guard. This guy my friend went up against at the Tournament pulled guard as soon as he was shooting the take down. So my friend basically got no points for the effort. From your last vid with MLA you were doing more than just that. You got a good ground game, sucks people don't respect it XD.

    Caught my ninja edit.

I've never really see it pulled off so well before, I was really impressed. It pissed me off watching my friend get wrecked, but to see that pulled off twice was mind blowing.
