Around 8 years ago, one of my close girl friends was involved in a driveby shooting. Her boyfriend at the time is now paralyzed because of the shooting. Since then, she has been traumatized by nearly everything. She is scared to go out a lot of the times, doesn't like being alone, has problems sleeping, stays far from places where they have thuggy looking people, etc. Recently, she was also at a shop where there was a shooting. Is it too late to get therapy? Would it help her with these issues?

No it's never too late to stop ignoring the issues in your life and begin to deal with them. Yes therapy should help her deal with these issues but it's actually a function of her willingness and the therapist. Not every therapist is right for the patient and sometimes it takes a while to find one that you can work with and be 100% honest with.

It's also a matter of her willingness to open up and be honest with the therapist. If she's unwilling to do this, therapy will simply be a drain on her finances. With therapy, you get out of it what you put into it.

    Coottie does it again.

It is never too late to seek therapy or counseling, especially with something as traumatic as that.
