Regarding cameras I have nothing but good things to say about the 3 bolded ones.

I live close to Samys so I drop buy if I need to pick something up. Never ordered from them off the web though.

I agree that those are the safe dealers, but I have a few personal experiences with these places to share. You also forgot Unique-Photo, but they are more of an east coast thing.

B&H - Great selection and prices, but they can suck to deal with if you aren't spending $50,000. Slow shipping, no communication if there is a shipping/stock problem, often closed and odd store hours.
Adoroma - Basically the same as B&H, but I haven't had as many shipping delays and problems with Adorama.
    Samys - No opinion.
Calumet Photo - Good selection (not as large as B&H, but then who is?), normal store hours, super friendly, but they are more expensive than Adorama or B&H.
Dell - Great prices but often little inventory and a limited selection of mostly mainstream gear.
Amazon - Usually just a front for Adorama or B&H, but sometimes there are some really good deals available from smaller stores.
KEH - Mostly used and a limited selection. Fantastic bargains on used gear, but new gear is expensive. Good place to sell old gear also.
    Kitz/Ritz/Wolf/Cameras West - No opinion
    17th Street - No opinion
    Beach/Buydig - No opinion
Unique Photo - Mostly just people in the Northeast know about them, but it's a decent alternative to Calumet. Pretty good pricing, but a fairly limited selection of gear. Easily the nicest bunch of people I've bought from though. Very easy to work with and maintain an account with.

You pretty much can't go wrong buying from any of these places, but some have higher prices than others. Calumet stands out in that regard. Every time I check Calumet's price on a lens it's always 5% higher than Adorama, Unique or B&H. :dunno:

I have physically been to B&H, Adorama, Unique, and Calumet so for those of you that have only seen their websites/magazine ads, believe me, they are not little shady joints selling stolen gear out of the back of a Ryder van, like expresscameras.com. So those would be my short list of places to buy from.
