how long does it usually take for a tongue piercing to heal up?
i mean, like, talking normally and such?
i`m planning on getting it done on the 20th or 21st.
and i have a modeling shoot on the 25th.
will it be better by then?

also, does anyone have any tips as to how to help it heal/how to keep it from getting infected or whatnot?

also - anyone in MD know any good piercers?
    thanks. :x:

For me (a long time ago!) the swelling went down completely after a few days and it was *almost* healed after a week and completely healed after 2 weeks.

Suck on lots of ice blocks and drink herbal tea :)

Are you modelling your tongue? :ugh2:
Why would it matter? Sounds like you just wanted to bring up that you are doing a photo shoot.

A tongue piercing feels a lot like getting a tetanus shot, except in your tongue. You know that muscle soreness that follows that? Its quite similar for some people. You are, after all, piercing a muscle. The soreness typically lasts 3-5 days and can be helped by drinking lots of cool water (the coolness helps with swelling and preventing dehydration prevents swelling as well, a big source of the discomfort) and taking ibuprofen, which is a non steroidal anti inflammatory that helps tremendously with swelling as well.

Wow, overreact much? I hardly think that post and "So you want to get a tattoo and a tongue piercing within a week of each other?" constitutes trolling my favourite forum on here.
I don't know why you got so worked up about this :dunno:

You will be able to talk. At worst you will probably fumble a couple of words or have a slight lisp, but you will be understandable. Like people said, lots of water, lots of ice, and my personal favourite, ibuprofen for healing piercings in a hurry.

Mine didn't hurt at all when I got it. It swelled up nice that first night, but I was eating hamburger helper a couple hours after getting it. I never lisped or had trouble talking. I did find out later though that they didn't use a longer initial bar on my tongue like they should have (and told me it was a 12g, but really was a 14. A 12 did fit just fine though, probably from playing with it). I've had it about a year & a half now and love it as much as the day I got it! (And had wanted it for 4.5 years before I did it. Parents were way against it).
