    Tongue piercing aftercare *question*

A few questions for you guys.... :)

I got my tongue pierced mid-day friday, by saturday lunch i was eating normal food without a problem, just had to take smaller bites.

I rinse my mouth out with oral b, alcohol free mouthwash about 10 times a day. Mainly because i always rinse after i smoke.

I noticed today in the mirror, that there is a white ring around the outside of the hole. I washed my hands with some anti-bacterial soap and played aroudn with it and i was able to pull a chunk off......it hurt....i would assume that it was SUPPOSED to be attached.

What the hell is that white stuff? If i put the piercing towards the back of my tongue, i can see that it goes down the hole of the piercing, almost looks like a little sheath.

Is that what a healing tongue piercing looks like? Or is something wrong??

    Mike

Sounds like you may be irritating it. Try switching out your mouthwash with gly-oxide a few times a day (can be found in any drug store) which is an oral antiseptic. Whatever you do, dont play with your piercing. The healing process isnt always pretty but you need to just sort of let it do its thing unless u see signs of infection.

You are rinsing it too often and irritating it. The whte you are seeing is actually flesh - probably on ts way to becoming scar tissue.

Yep, that's skin that's too irritated to heal properly....cut back on the smoking and the rinse. Whether you rinse or not, you're still irritating the shit out of it, after the cigarette doesn't matter so much, it's during the cigarette that you're really fuckin' your tongue up.

I'd say try to cut down to 1/4 pack a day, and use a slightly milder mouthwash.

i smoke about 4-8 smokes a day, that's why i rinse so much

is it okay if i don't rinse after every smoke and just rinse a few times a day?

i'd slowly lower the amount of rinsings after 2 weeks.

I just brushed and rinsed twice a day, drank a lot of water, and if I wanted to clean the underside of my tongue I used a q-tip. Never swelled up too much. No slurred speech. All is well.

i rinsed with Listerine diluted with bottled water about 5 times a day after eating. Drank lots of water and took ibuprophen for a week afterwards. After that I just rinsed after eating and drank water.

My piercer told me to use the LITHA approach (leave it the hell alone), he threatened me with developing scar tissue if I didn't.

I used salt water to rinse it and just waited it out.

I have no idea how you managed to eat so quickly afterwards though. It was 5-6 days before anything solid went in my mouth. Oh, the pain. :(

Well worth it in the end though.

    Dallas, unfortunately.

LITHA works the best out of any other method. diluted listerine should be gentle enough to use, but in general, you dont want to use anything with alcohol in it on fresh piercings. using a mouthwash with clorohexidine works really well from what ive heard

LITHA works great, but check out sea salt and frosty's from wendy's... well at least that was my excuse for frosty binging.
