Prove me otherwise, I'll be ordering it tonight.

I've been debating this for about a month, but it's pretty much the only lens I don't have, Money is not really a big of deal, but I could use the extra $500 that i'd spend on the Nikon on something else.

I've read countless and countless reviews, and seen about a million pictures posted from both lenses, from most all that i've read, the tokina is just as good, if not better than the Nikon, both lenses are very nice well constructed peices of glass, both constant f/4 both are 77mm filter usable the tokina weighs a bit more than the nikon, and has a little bit stronger bokeh. Its just the nikon does all the same shit, for 500 dollars more. I don't get what I'm gaining besides keeping all my glass nikon, which i really don't care.

Hates? Rants? Raves? Ideas? Anyone use either? TIA

I wouldn't feel confident buying a lens from a company who's entire reputation depends on one single lens. Other than the 12-24, Tokina's have had horrible history, we had a return rate of like 75% when we carried them.

save the 500 for something else!

ok_computer: have you ever used the tokina 12-24?

No, but my complaint isnt with that lens, it's just with Tokina in general. I have heard good reviews for the 12-24.

I've shot with both and the only thing I've found is the barrel distortion on the nikon to be a little less than on the Tokina. Other than that, it is a great lens and is the one I use the most.

I <3 my Tokina 12-24. Build quality is a smidge below the Nikkor, but image quality is right up with it.
