I've been eyeing this lens for a while since my widest lens only goes to 24mm (on a crop body). Last night I finally decided to buy it, so I was looking on ebay to take advantage of the 25% cashback. My girlfriend was sitting next to me and started getting really nervous/acting weird. After I found an auction I was happy with she finally said, "you can't buy that now because I already got it for you for Christmas!"

She got really depressed because she felt like the surprise was ruined. Obviously I'm stoked, free UWA lens on the way and now I can focus my attention/funds to other gear! :o

Anybody have one? Everything I've read about it has been positive except for the limited zoom range...

I have one. It's by far my favorite WA or UWA that I have used. The build quality is amazing and the photos are amazingly sharp and contrasty.

I rented this thing and it was down right awesome...the sharpness at 2.8 is amazing. Honestly I wished it went more wider than it did.

here are few pics of my niece.

    Cute pictures.

WIDER than 11mm? That's pretty hardcore.

Lens looks freaking awesome. Definitely going to check it out, especially for that price. I have a couple of Nikon WA/UWA lenses on my santa list this year, would be nice ot save the coin because ultimately I pay for it, lol.

my biggest gripe was its Minimum Focusing Distance. i'd catch myself getting closer, but it'd never focus so i had to move back. I wish it was able to focus closer than it does.

    i think i just need a fisheye.

Thats why you should get a FF camera. 11mm on a d300 is 16.5mm on a d700. My 17-35 focuses REALLY close at 17mm and is amaaaazing. :)

The original plan was a 5d2 and 17-40L but I'm gonna stick with the 40D for now and see how the reviews of the 5d2 are. Looks incredible, but given the fact that it's going to be impossible to buy for a while I wanted something for my current setup.

Tokina 11-16 is the best UWA for a crop sensor body period. And it's sharper than a 17-40L on a FF.

    You'll like it.

worth the extra price compared to the sigma 10-20? i don't need the focal range of the 10-20, and i can live without an extra 1mm on the wide end if the image quality is better.

i think the fact that its f/2.8 makes it well worth it over the 10-20 :o

    Whaddya mean you can't?

You'll get at least 400 out of that lens.

    cheaper?

I got the tokina 12-24 for 350 dollars in like new condition. I couldn't get myself to pass up that deal and pay way more to get a smaller focal length :hsd: I wish I had 2.8 but besides that I am very happy with the 12-24. 24 - 35 is my favorite for indoors which is what I shoot a lot.

which means I'd have to find a way to make up that extra $170...
