A&P Tokina 11-16 vs 12-24... wow this is like comparing Ali to a high school boxer

    :ugh::ugh:

So I returned the first 12-24 after it was fail and had dust inside the lens new. 2nd one came with lens cap off, front glass shit up... and quality was soft.

I made up my mind it was going back. The 11-16 is sold out everywhere. One day my friend comes to work saying he found a cool camera store in the area. I call them, and wow they have 1 left. They held it for me and I bought it for $600.

The quality is night and day. 11-16 is super sharp. Outside pics at f/8 infinity are so much nicer than the 12-24.

If you're thinking about the 12-24, don't waste your time. I would compare it to my d90 kit lens.

    Terrible. :wtc:

oh the camera store was also pretty neat. sales lady let me take it out and mount it to a d90 to take pics with. that's probably common, but i never experienced it. will have to visit them more

were you told to buy the 11-16 initially before you went ahead and bought the 12-24.

glad to see you like it :wiggle:

probably. people rubbed it in after i had the 12-24 and hated it.

this lens and the 35 1.8 are my new favorites. i use the 35 so much. it's incredibly sharp

it blows my mind dude, honestly. this lens produces off the camera pics that are nice and sharp. i used to have to use LR to enhance sharpness on the 12-24

I'd need the 2.8 so it won't even be a question... i'll go with the 11-16 or nothing at all.

Thanks for this. I was bummed that there was nobody on here recommending it yet. I guess I'll get one now.

the 12-24 f/4 was driving me nuts. i'm taking pics at 1/500 thinking my hands are creating softness. then i get the 11-16 and shoot 1/60th with sharper images.

    <3 my tokina 11-16

  21. I had a Sigma 10-20, it was alright... could have used some more zoom... I've been looking at the Canon 10-22, I don't plan on going full frame at all... the 10-22 is regarded as a "L" lens for it's build, but there's something missing it in that doesn't make it an L lens...

i wonder how these 2 compare? the canon 10-22 is supposed to be fantastic

  23. The Sigma was great, build quality was nice, it was sharp wide open, distortion was pending on your angle of the photo. I sold it because I really didn't have much use for it -- but I'm looking at getting a 40D eventually and probably get the 10-22...

The Sigma also has a somewhat quiet motor, but after working at a camera shop and playing with 1st party lenses, I'm sticking with first party...

sorry i meant canon 10-22 vs tokina 11-16.

the canon kills the sigma. so does the tokina

  25. Well, the 10-22 has great image quality, the USM motor...

    Downsides, it's an EF-S, 3.5-4.5

The Tokina while cheaper with a nice constant 2.8... bu the range is pretty iffy...

I'd think it depends on what you're shooting, because in a night club, the 11-16 with a f2.8 would benefit you a lot, but I've heard that the 10-22 can focus quite nice, since it's almost an L glass.
