Describe the various toilets experienced by you guys in the military. Like at basic, in Iraq, etc. I have no stories, but I kinda wanna join, so I'm curious. Not that this will be a factor in whether or not I enlist, lol.

    army:

Basic toilet stalls swing outward and you can't lock yourself in.

Toilets in AIT are community and the stalls usually lock, which is awesome.

Toilets in most unit barracks are shared between 2-4 soldiers and there's one per room.

Toilets in Iraq/Afghanistan/Kuwait can range from a portapotty (maybe even a ditch) to a bathing trailer.

First off, the fact that toilets come to mind when you think about joining the military is fucking weird. You have some kind of fetish or phobia?

Weirdest: Metal folding chair with a hole cut out in the center, strapped to a tree, hanging off the side of a old bridge.

^^^ So you have to shit on that? Lol.

    What's AIT?

How clean are the toilets generally? In Iraq, AIT, basic, and in barracks?

    Thanks.

    LOL. AF FTW.

Basic we had outward opening stalls, tech school we had school style shared facilities until I moved off base, since then it's been a typical house.

In Iraq it was as described, everything from porta pottys to trailers.

Would you wanna know if you were going away to a place where you have to sit on shit to take a shit? I'd rather dig my own hole than sit on a pile of crap.

What're TCN's? Sucks to be them, lol.

Kinda wanna get into intelligence. Is AF a good start? I was thinking army since I don't like boats, and TV (sorry...) portrays them to be intelligence friendly, but AF sounds so much easier...

air force is looking to expand big time in intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance(ISR) AF just got about 14k billets back and the majority will be ISR jobs.

My experience is pretty limited but in training I had to share a toilet with three other guys at one time. had to share about 10 with over 250 guys. the line of people waiting to take their morning shit was always about 20 long. urinals were never in short supply. at another and then had to share about 20 porta johns with the same amount of people. there was no option other than to crap in a porta john. It was akward the first time but you get used to it. toilet paper was in short supply though. if you had to take a shit you always had to look before getting too far along.

When i was in boot camp (parris island) the toilets had no doors on the stalls, so you would have to look at the guy poopin across from ya. In MCT ( in the field) there was absolutely no walls or doors around the toilets, just out in the open. When i was in Iraq we had about 4 portajohns that we used. Other parts of the base had trailers with toilets in them

All joking aside, if you're worried about the shitters I would recommend you join the Air Force.

Not worried per se. More like curious. I've seen porta potties in pictures and stuff, but I've also seen genuine stalls in movies like full metal jacket, so I kinda wanna know what to expect. It's good to hear that generally speaking, the toilets are clean though :)
