My SO and I will be reaching our year and a half at the end of this month...

Is it stupid to celebrate that and should we wait for our 2 year mark or do you think it's alright to do something special?

Its alright to do something special for a year and a half - just don't go all out - save that for the real anniversary! I've been with my SO for over 2 years and he still gets me a card each month on the day of our anniversary...the 25th

Awww...he'd never do that, he's the one that thinks it's stupid to do it for a half year mark.

Ha, well to be more pittyful...

    Me and my SO have...

Weekly 'anniversary' every monday- usually no gift, but we make it a point to do something special

Monthly 'anniversay' every 29th - Small gift, maybe a road trip somewhere.

Every 50 days 'anniversary' - Usually nothing more than a day set apart to do something special together just the 2 of us, on the 100 multiples we usually go out of town

Yearly anniversary - Yea these get big and expensive lol, but we have fun.

So to answer your questions... I think its cool to make a reason for something special whenever possible. :bigthumb:

God I feel jealous now.....lol me and my bf have been together like 7 months, and he's never done anything horribly special for me at all. Well. he did buy Phantom of the Opera so we could watch it when it finally came out, but that stays at his house.

    I don't know...that all seems a little overkill.

Yea its definitely overkill to make it a point to celebrate our relationship whenever possible. To make reasons to do something special with each other, and to give each other things to look forward to. :ugh:

Its horribly overkill to love one another so much that all you think about even after spending EVERY DAY together is the next time you will do something together. :ugh:

I guess love is a little overkill too...:ugh2:

    I like overkill :big grin:

    No offense meant...seriously.

My fiance saw this thread too and she was telling me the same thing. To each their own it's just some people don't see monetary things as a way of saying 'I love you'...

I would assume you both come from very affectionate families or have a stronger 'need' to make sure your SO knows you love them.

It's never wrong to celebrate something special. Life is fleeting and it's delicate and fragile. Never take things for granted...you may find them gone before you know it.

None taken. I know different people have different things that work for them. Shit my friends and family almost get sick at the random affection me and my SO show each other.

As long as whatever works for you works for your SO...then you are good to go. I dont think there are really any set 'rules' to follow.

Thats what getting to know your SO is all about, knowing when to do what and how to do it...so it will be enjoyable for you both.

I've discussed this with a few other people and mosthave said that celebrating that much would make it lose it's meaning...I'm torn.

I'm not on RVB's level of celebrating, but my gf and I always make it a point of celebrating each other's love every chance we get. We don't set any dates (except aniversary) but we try to make every day a special occasion, from watching TV to going hiking.

It's alright, actually, it is kinda cool if you do.
But if it doesn't happen, don't be disappointed.
I can understand yearly. That is practically expected.
But don't expect it any other time than that.

:hs: The days of my boyfriend doing those little things for me have been long gone.

I don't see anything wrong with celebrating your love for each other when you want and set aside the time to. I think it's very romantic and sweet. :)
