I'm ready for R&R to be over. It was awesome, but I need to be back with my team. During R&R I have: Figured out how to make sure I get the baggage detail any time I'm on R&R. Flown first class for the 18 hour flight from Kuwait to Atlanta. Had my duffel bag lost in Atlanta, and not returned to me until a couple of days ago. Had random (but protected) sex with two total strangers. (Charlotte, NC) Stayed in the best B&B I've ever seen. (Lovill House Inn, Boone, NC) Turned down a lot of favors from people that want to do something nice for any soldier they see. Flown a Cessna 172 with my ex-flight instructor. Badly. (I haven't flown in years) Decided that I wasn't enough of a man-whore to seduce my ex-flight instructor. Gotta draw the line somewhere. Played around on my brother-in-law's snowmobile. Pissed off friends and family that decided I should spend my time and money to come visit them, wherever in the country they all happen to be living at the time. Had sex with a friend of my ARNG 1SG's wife. Had an argument with the friend of my ARNG 1SG's wife after she immediately started the control freak (aka: pussywhip training) act. Eaten the very best steak (the 8 oz. "hanger" cut ) that I have ever tasted in my life. (Tamarack Restaurant, on Burke Mountain, VT) Visited the place where I buried my youngest son's ashes. (Cathedral Ledge, NH) Caught up with a lot of good friends, and met some pretty cool new friends. All-in-all it was a real good two weeks. I started out with only vague plans and zero expectations. I've seen guys go on R&R and come back all pissed because their every-single-minute-was-planned-to-the-max R&R didn't turn out the way they wanted. But I could not imagine a nicer way to spend two weeks in the middle of the winter than the way I spent mine. Well... I didn't get to sex up Halle Barry, so I guess it could be improved. Thanks, America, for the good times.
