This will be added to my new sticky. Sticky will be up before the weekend's done. Helpful advice will be added with credits unless otherwise specified.

ACNE - Get rid of this shit! It undermines your self confidence, it's unattractive, and it just plain sucks! I went from pizza face to clear and handsome. It was hard, but that's because I had to try 11tybillion things. Hopefully this little guide will help you.

    THINGS NOT TO DO

    Don't touch the affected area.

Don't pick at your pimples. Leave that gross whitehead right where it is until it goes away naturally.

Acne is a bateria. Acne Vulgaris or something along those lines. It can easily spread to more PORES. Those pores get clogged, and you have another zit. It can keep spreading like this.

Do not use any abrasive force on the area. DO NOT scrub hard. Pad your face gently while washing and drying.

The idea is to halt the spread of this bacteria and then attack it. It can become resistant to chemicals. You may have to try several different products to obtain satisfactory results.

    Dehydration = Bad

Bad diet = Possible reason for acne. Milk, Chocolate, and fatty foods are worse.

Execsizing = Can be a cause of acne.

Chemicals, soaps, etc = Can be a cause of acne. Some dude on the fitness forums here found out that irish spring soap was the problem, and when he stopped using it he became clear!

For people with moderate to bad acne, please try accutane. You will be blood tested - very unlikley to get bad results. For people with mild to moderate acne, skip the next few lines until you see mild-moderate.

    *Moderate to Chronic Acne*

    Accutane

    *accutane journal* http://www.geocities.com/mcarteruga

It's being taken off the market, or might be.

I had moderate to chronic acne years ago. It was so bad my best friends avoided looking at my face. Forehead, temples, sides of face, chinline, stash line... it was a mess. Body acne on back and ass.

I took a 40mg, 4 month long accutane treatment. My face has been perfectly clear ever since taking accutane. I have been complemented on how clear it is! Can you beleieve that?? No more backne or assne either. The side effects? Dry lips! THAT WAS ALL!

In my personal opinion this is a miracle drug. Monthly blood tests should prevent any problems.

If you have horror stories or success stories, feel free to post them below. Include dosage, duration, frequency of blood tests and other viable info please...

Anti-biotics work wonders for some people. I recommended trying these before accutane, but time is of the essence right now.

    Mild-Moderate Acne

If accutane is not for you there are two other products I can offer you. Differin is a form of vitamin A like accutane, but it's applied on the skin and there are no side effects.

Clindoxyl Gel contains benzol peroxide 5% and clindamycin, which are great at killing acne bacteria.

Aloe Vera Gel 100% aloe... is great for smoothing your skin, preventing inflamation, and has healing properties. I think it mosturizes too. Use this shit! It's cheep and good.

Some people have success with oxy pads and these other strip products. They do work for some people, but if they don't work for you then stop using them. They are hard on the skin.

Benzoyl peroxide is an effective form of treatment. You can get this in the form of nutregena body wash. Acne easily builds resistance to this . I recommend striking with 5% or higher.

I can't cover all these products. But I will say some are bad and some are really good. You should try to figure out which is best.

PM me if you have any questions.

add with advice and recommendations. you will be credited. this thread will be deleted and added to my new sticky by the end of the weekend

Ummm, birth control. Monthly bloodtest, if deemed necessary? Isotretinoin comes in topical form too. Retin -A.

Honestly Benzoil Proxide is the best and no side effects. When my acne gets bad I use it for a week and its almost gone again.

There are some creams that actually dry the face, so in a few days, you are able to peel off some of the infected areas. Atleast this worked for me, I'm not sure what this cream was, sorry for the info gap.

I use to have bad acne, mostly on my chin and forehead area (i still have 1 or 2 barely noticeable ones left). Also the nose holds alot of 'blackheads'. It would be inflamed really bad, man I hated it. All I did was keep popping, but that's not that right thing. In time I noticed alot of other people had even worse acne than ME. That boosted my confidence a little, hehe. As you get older it goes away, which is great.

Dave - of course. They make you take tests anyways, and you must abort the baby if you become pregnant. Girls have to sign all that shit and have to be on birth control with accutane.

I did leave out the side effects. But you will not get accutane unless you read them, unless your doctor is on crack.

You should not be harmed by this drug. They take a blood test beforehand to make sure you can handle it. Then every time you get it filled you are tested. There is a small chance something could happen, just like an airplane could crash into my house right now.

EliteLamer - Yeah BP is great for mild to moderate acne. But in some cases (like me) it did jack shit.

Liquid - Hmm, sounds like something I wouldn't do. I had to undergo laser surgury for scars. I would never risk physically touching my face.

It doesn't always go away as you get older. That's a myth, even though it does happen to some people, it's not completely true.

    ---

Accutane is a hard drug. It's a massive overdose of a vitamin. But it works for a lot of people, and gives permanent result. With blood tests etc, I think it would be foolish not to at least try it (if you have bad zits).

GIrls can take it if they're not planning on getting pregnant. I did just fine. You get a pregnancy test once a month and are required to be on birth control. I think the birth defects scare the girls away from being pregnant, and to tell you the truth, if you're bad enough to require Accutane, getting laid isn't always on your doorstep...

The only side effect I suffered was dry skin - but that was a semi blessing as I'm usually quite oily.

Of course now, years later, I still break out from time to time, but it's from not keeping my skin perfectly clean and always leaning on my hands. BAD habits. I've seen ProActive work for many people, and it makes your skin feel incredibly clean.

The most important thing is to get a routine, and stick with it. Straying off your routing for even one day could cause a breakout.

that may be true, but i'm not positive it is. & saying that may make people OCD about it :o

if you're busy & not at home & hafta miss applying BP one night, oh well. its not the end of the world. just apply it the next morning or whenever you can. :dunno:

Also to keep your skin non oily. Wash your face twice a day, shave with a good razor and cleaning shaving cream for acne. And to get rid of the dryness caused by all of that use a good lotion. Its all on acne.org. That site is great, my doctor follows like the same plan, not quite as strict tho.

I would hope they wouldn't OCD about it.

Just have a simple routine. I have my own. When I get up, I wipe my face down with witch hazel. When I get home from school, same thing. If I'm working that day, when I get home from that, same thing. Then at night around 11 or so, I'll wash my face, or when I get home from going out. If I miss wiping my face with witch hazel, no biggie, I just do it when I get a chance.

Then you probably don't need accutane. There are some unbelievably serious deep cystic acne that will not respond to anything but accutane. If you were one of these people, you would literally get down on your knees and sob to have this treatment.

This kind of acne is very painful, severely scarring physically and emotionally.

Oh and hey, chemotherapy has lots of nasty side-effects too, but it's better than letting the cancer eat away at you.

Yeah you are right, I am not really against it. I dont know, I use to have it bad I use to get syths on my neck and they would hurt and I would always try to pop them because of all the pressure that use to build up.

I finally made a dermatologist appointment, but its not for another week and a half. I get acne where my neck connects to my jaw on the sides. Sometimes I get a big pimple on my neck. Every once in a while I get one on my face, but they usually go away quickly.

I've been using a 10% Benzoyl Peroxide solution. The BP cream leaves crusty white areas where its applied once it is dried, so I only put it on when I know I'll be home for a few hours. If I leave it on overnight, my neck gets really irritated and red. It seems to help make the pimples go away faster, but its not preventing them. Then again, I also pop the zits once they get a head on them.

How old is everyone here? I recently turned 23, I figured I would have grown out of this shit by now. I had an acne problem when I was in high school, but it went away, ages 18,19,20, and was totally clear. Then I started lifting weights. I don't know if its my weightlifting diet, or the changes in testosterone or what...

I'm afraid that when I go to the dermatologist, he won't have anything better than 10% BP cream, and I'll have to go on Accutane. My skin is very sensitive and prone to redness, and I can already see myself getting an extremely red face and dry skin/lips, and skipping classes over it. Its my senior year, and I have a lot of important shit to do, and I'll feel rediculous going to interviews and my classes with my face all messed up.

Last night I went out because my acne was bearable, but tonight I told my friends I was tired and wasn't going out. What really happened is 3 new pimples popped up on my jaw line and they look like shit.

I sure hope the dermatologist can cure this shit, I know my confidence will increase a hundred fold. On nights when I go out and my acne is minimal, I'm like a totally different person, confident and fun. But when I have a small outbreak, I'm really shy and extremely conscious of trying to keep the "bad side" pointed away from people.

Wow, sorry to ramble on, I guess I'm bored because my friends are out looking for women, and I'm here...well, I just got a call frome a girl, but I told her I was too tired to go to the casino...:uh: I'm going to go eat some food.

see thats weird, because the large majority of sources say that washing more than twice a day is overkill & can make things worse by irritating the skin.
different things work for different people :dunno:

I'm not "washing" so to speak. I just squirt some witch hazel on a cotton pad, and wipe my face down real quick, just get off the dirt.

I used to have bad acne on my face and back. Now my face is decently clear but my back is still pretty bad. The scarring is ridiculous. I just don't know what to do for it. I have one or too pimples on my face usually, but my upper back always has lots. Any suggestions?

:bsflag: you dont have acne anymore because you took accutane, ive been on every med on the market except for accutane and ive gone by all that you just said for a very long time and yes it does help. but its still there and it will remain there until i either get on accutane or grow out of it, most people start to lose their acne after 17 or 18 but for some it lasts most of their life.
