    What do you actually mean?

I've heard it said again and again... But explain how that actually works.

You have to popular with tons of big sponsors to get a top placing and without those it doesn't matter how you look

Politics. It also makes your gut bulge out if you take too much of it.

    politics bro.

the bigger the sponser the bigger the paycheck the bigger the exposure the bigger the chances of winning big which brings in even more money for the sponsor.

    it's all about connections.

Basically contracts and sponsorships. From what I understand, the top bodybuilders get most of their money from sponsorships and endorsements of supplements and other products. For instance Ronnie and BSN.

The companies have a lot of money depending on their guy doing well and of course the judges will be under pressure because of it. Plus, some people like Jay are established names so he's less likely to drop out of the top 5 even if he deserves it.

Weider sponsered athletes seem to have a better chance of winning big money shows. You'll notice magazines like FLEX talk all year about certain BB'ers, hyping up the Olympia...this year it was billed as the "Jay vs. Dex Show" all year...you can guess from the magazines who is positioned to win or place high...check the top 10 at the Olympia versus a list of Weider sponsered athletes...I bet 8 out of 10 are

Even Pur has stated some guys even out at the end with how much money they spend to get where they are at, unless they have insane sponsors.

If I could earn half my yearly expenses for stepping on stage one time per year for 5 minutes I'm pretty sure I would be satisfied.

the whole point is that bodybuilding isn't a full-time job, it's a sport with a small fan base. money isn't going to come from nowhere just so these guys can afford all the oil they choose to pin

plus we are talking about one single event here

    Not so my friend.

Irrelevant would imply that it doesn't affect their financial position. However, 100% of all top BB'ers are juicing heavy and spending insane amounts on food/gear. Therefore, the ability to be amongst the top (who would win that prize money) is impossible without the financial sacrifice of food/gear; which in most cases nearly meets or even exceeds the Mr. O prize money.

That's like saying having to travel 30min to pick up $20 isn't bad for just sitting in a car, but if the means of transportation was a taxi that cost $20 it's a moot point really; isn't it?

You cannot only account for the prize at hand. You must also account for what necessary measures were required to attain that prize. This is basic 101 of Financial Principles; The Cost Benefit Analysis.

bodybuilding is a full-time job:rofl: . If these guys miss one meal or fuck something up it can destroy conditioning etc... And speaking of if you made half yearly expenses in 5minutes. Ok so lets break it down. FOr the entire year up until the show you make
NO MONEY. So these are your expenses to name a food. Random guesses

    Drugs 40-50k
    Food 200 or more a week x52 = 10-12k
    House Rent = 1500-2000 per month = 18000 -24k
    Vehicle Payment 300-700 a month = 8400
    Massage therapy
    Tanning
House Bills such as electric, water,
OH fuel costs for driving vehicles

It just keeps going up. YOu think that 150k they win is not taxed? LOL
