After many failed attempts, I'm going all out on quitting the cigarettes. I have not had a drink in 11 days and my smoking quit date is Friday. I picked Friday because that will be 10 days on Zyban.

I think this is the longest I've gone without a drink in over 12 years and I feel like I could snap at any time.

    Last 3 years:
I got drunk 2-3 times a week. Blacked out 1-2 times a month.

Between the ages of 19 and 25, I got wasted just about everyday (booze or drugs). It's amazing I graduated college. I sort of "cleaned up" when I got a job in the real world.

Do you consider yourself an alcoholic? Or just a heavy social drinker?

I not sure. One thing is for sure though, once I start drinking it is very hard for me to quit. 90% of the time I end up shit-faced.

that sounds like the definition of an alcoholic drinker. Have you thought about how it affects your life?

Yup. Nothing good has ever come from me drinking. Only bad.

So why, before you were trying to quit smoking, did you keep drinking?

It's what we (friends and I) do. We all go to the same bar. If I'm hungry, I go to the bar, get food, some friends come up and we get drunk. If my friend's wife is hungry, they go to the bar, I meet them and we get drunk. You see where I'm going with this.

What's wierd is that lately, I have been to the bar a couple times and not had a drink. It's a wierd feeling seeing people get drunk when you are sober. I don't know if I'm disgusted with them or myself.

Good job with the not-smoking and not-drinking. :bigthumb: If you find yourself unable to quit though - you'll need a solution like most of us did.

Thanks for the support, I'm amazed what a little encouragement can do.
