To Quiksilver: Don't be a Pussy

    I'll be home until march so i decided to really dedicate myself to eating alot and working out alot. with that comes a log...i guess it'll be some more motivation.

    my school (Dartmouth) allows everyone to basically design their own schedule. i was at school during the summer so i decided to take the winter quarter off. i'll be working come january but my main focus will be getting bigger and stronger.

    Current Stats:
    180lbs.
    20 yrs.
    5'7"
    S: 380
    B: 250
    D: 460

    Goals by March:
    200 lbs
    S: 405+
    B: 300
    D: 500+

    Genetics is definitely NOT in my favor. Sophmore year in high school i was 112lbs....i know because i wrestled in that class (just one year). Junior and Senior years are when i started weightlifting...but even then it was like one day a week...full body crap...benching at the most 135 @ 130lbs (or something pathetic like that).

    College was when i started getting into powerlifting, partly because people on this board starting asking alot of Westside Barbell questions. I looked into it and saw some videos of powerlifting...i'd never seen people but 1000+ lbs on their backs, bench 800+ lbs or deadlift 900+ before. i immediately wanted to be like them.

    Problem is my school is full of hikers, bikers, skiiers, and runners. our gym, though nice looking, is atrocious to the eye of a prospective strength athlete. but luckily i met up with the ONE powerlifter in my entire school my freshman year and we've trained together as often as we could since.

    Now i'm a junior and ready to take my training to the next level. i've found a non-commercial gym 30min from where i live and for once i feel SMALL and I LOVE IT (you can imagine how small the people at my school are). I can only go up from here. I just need to stop being a pussy and lift.

    Don't ask me for advice. I'm weaker than a ten year old girl.

    on a side note, i have a hunch on my upper back and it's annoying...started i think when i started seriously lifting, so like 2 years ago. upper back (it feels like the spine) aches when i do shrugs or deadlifts. still figuring out how to strengthen/correct it.

    Big dead but small bench in relation to ur other lifts...Do you have really long arms? just curious :hs:

    hmm...when i post pics u can judge for yourself....but in my opinion it's cause i have a overall weak upper body LOL

    hopefully that will all change during this winter.

    alrighty. I was just thinking you might have long arms because long arms make it easier to deadlift, but harder to bench since you have more distance to travel :hs: you do have a nice deadlift tho (im jealous) :hsd:

    i guess i say things like that to motivate me...after all i'm comparing myself to who i want to be, namely elite level powerlifters like all the guys on elitefts.com, etc.

    i just want to ingrain into my mind to never be content with where i am. there's always room for improvement.

    sigh...unfortunately i left my camera AND my ipod at home yesterday. actually come to think of it i might have done it intentionally...i'm basically one of the smallest guys at the gym and for me to record my lifts would look sorta ridiculous...haha. but man i wish i recorded at least my yell when i locked it out...that was by far the manliest yell i've ever achieved in my life LOL.

    when i go for 500 in maybe 3-4 weeks i'll be sure to record it. for now i gotta get some pics of me uploaded, hopefully sometime today.

    GPP/Adding Variety/I Dunno what the F i'm doing

    Sledgehammer Work
    (20 swings per side (10 right, 10 left, 10 right, 10 left)) for 5 sets.

    Man i felt these everywhere...forearms, biceps/triceps, shoulders, abs, lower back.

    These were fun. Plus it started to hail/rain so I felt extra hardcore.

    Animal Pak sponsorship...here i come. LOL

    hmm haven't updated this in a long time. training is going well. decided that i'm going to do a WABDL meet on March 10th, deadlift only. hoping to pull 500+ in junior 181 class. i'm anxious about it already...it'll be my first meet and i'm going alone :noes:.

    What a great day. Took the last two days off because I wanted to prepare for a big deadlift PR today.

    500 x 1 <---25 lb PR

    was planning on going heavier but the deadlift took it out of me

    Back Extensions
    Hamstrings
    Calves

    I think i'm in good shape for my meet. But there's always room for improvement. Gotta bring up my hamstrings, felt a little twinge in my right one on the 500.

    damn congrats man, but looks like you need to work on your lockout strength a little bit. great job though, and ur damn strong for your bodyweight!

    Thank you. At the meet, when you wear a belt and powder up your legs that 500 should smoke to lockout!!

    :werd: plus, meet atmosphere jacks everyone up too. I hit a 40 PR at my first push/pull... I wouldnt be surprised if you end up taking 500 on your second attempt

    i'm actually going to pull without a belt, so completely raw. just a little goal i set for myself. but the powder for sure.
