Do you think it is worth it to buy a .50BMG rifle?

    Pros:
    Fun to shoot?
    Very long range
    Stick it to the gungrabbers
you can actually say "Yeah I've got the biggest one here"

    Cons:
    Fawking expensive gun
    Fawking expensive ammo
    usually heavy and ungainly

It would defenitely be cool to have one, but you would need to have some serious disposable income to buy the rifle and keep feeding it ammo.

It would be sweet to have one. There are actually some quite afforable .50bmgs out there so don't think their not available to you. Just think you could shoot 690gr AP rounds. :eek4:

You might want to take another look at that price at your gunshop because that is around half the price that they normally go for.

If you have a range within reasonable distance that allows you to shoot it a reasonable distance and you don't mind the ammo cost than by all means get one. I would be upset if I had a $3k or more rifle that was capable of 1200+ yard shots but couldn't shoot it more than 100 yards lol. I plan on getting one early next year once I have a couple bills paid off :x: Luckily I have a 1000 yard range less than an hour away that would allow me to make good use of it :bigthumb: Another thing to consider is the cost or .50BMG worthy optics, I'd expect to pay around $1k minimum for a good scope like a Nightforce, Swarvoski, or one of the upper end Leupold's. Don't go spend 3500 on a rifle then 200 bucks on a Tasco that will be lucky to last 10 shots

I was actually considering a Serbu ( http://www.serbu.com/bfg50.htm ), before I had decided to go with a McMillan. But due to the fact that I live in Atlanta, and other than my buddy's land (who doesn't really like us shooting 50 BMG) there is no place to shoot the thing. I thought I could shoot it at the civi range at Ft Benning, but even they don't allow 50's. But if anyone is considering a 50 BMG, I'd take a close look at getting that serbu and putting a Nightforce on it. It a great gun for the price, and I've seen it out shoot a M99 from Barrett. But if money weren't an object I'd get an M82.

Edited to add: get a suppressor for it if you can it'll make a world of difference.

go 50. the lar bear gun is under 2 grand and its a great gun. 50's are amazing and a lot of fun. and you are able to gloat infront of anyone. because ive never even heard a name of someone who owned a 700 nitro express. maybe its because the gun costs 300000 and a round runs u about 100.
