Well ive been back and forth on upgrading to the new ones. Not really worried about the increase in cost. Overall it will end up being ~5 bucks more for me a month how im planning it out. Only downside for me is we dont have 3g support in my area yet.

On another note, a guy locally is buying 1st gen iphones for 400, so i could sell mine easily.

I'd just keep yours if you already have a first gen.

Thats what I'm doing. Waiting for Gen III

thats what i was thinking of doing... however its very tempting considering i would have enough from selling my gen1 to get a 16gig model, which would be about the right size for me.

I just have a regular phone now, and the monthly increase to a data plan is just too much for me...

I want one bad, but I don't really have a need for one...

I'll be upgrading when it's released. I likely would even if I had to spend my own money to do it.

just upgrading for the hell of it?

im prolly gonna if the guy buys my phone for 400 like he says. a 16gb with 100 bucks in my pocket would be good enough for me, even with out 3g available here yet (will be by october i hear). The plan increase isnt too horrible anyways.

Upgrading because the 3G alone is a big draw for me. I use my current iPhone for work a lot of the addition of faster internet even if there aren't many places I can't get wifi is still worth it. Additional battery life is always a plus as is a better speaker. Addition of GPS is nice too.

Here's an interesting article about how GPS app makers may be staying away from the iPhone.

hmm interesting... thought i heard tomtom was making an app tho. who knows.

TomTom has an app but they haven't really said they're going to release it. Some of the stuff in that article is just assumption too. The developer interviewed is assuming that if you buy an app you will be able to sync it with multiple phones. While we don't know for sure, I would think Apple would have some kind of controls in place to prevent you from being able to buy an app once and add it to multiple phones. Guess we'll just wait and see when it's released.

Hopefully they do release it, that would be an awesome app to have now that it has true gps. Im sure apple has something up their sleeve to prevent you from syncing apps on multiple phones... but we'll see for sure.

Im just interested to see how the new case feels in comparison... if it really is thicker in the center than the old phone.

My college campuses wifi uses 802.1x security so that will be a BIG improvement for me. Plus doubling my music capacity and battery life, as well as 3G date, GPS and a louder speaker just sweetens the deal further.

I've also got Fridays off so I'll be one of the guys showing up at 5am at a small-town AT&T store that carries them. :o

I just got a first gen cause I'm still in contract with T-mo and tbh they really do have damn good prices. But once my contract is up and pending a mid cycle upgrade to the phone I'm taking the jump.

there's a tmo store that i pass on my way to work that says they pay for termination charges if you switch. i wonder if you could join at&t for the iPhone and immediately switch to TMO if you wanted.

What the fuck is left to add to it that isn't software? I think they have that software thing pretty much covered too.

no. i was saying thats something they could improve. i believe the new one still has the 2.0 megapixel crapper that the 1st gens had.
