GUN To buy or not to buy, I can't decide

So, I can get a new in box Smith & Wesson M&P AR15 for $799, with case and 2 30rd'ers. It's the optics ready model, flat top and no front sight. Good deal, or keep looking? The only thing scaring me away is the cost of .223 ammo right now. :hs:

My biggest concern with holding off is that next year at this time, I might not be able to purchase said rifle if it's President Osama.

What would the WMD crew do?

If you can't afford a gun, don't buy a gun. If you can I think the S&W line has a good reputation but also check out the LMT line. I'd probably be inclined to get one with a fixed front sight personally but ymmv.

I would get one with iron sights. You never know if/when your optic will fail. I have the YHM flip up front sight and an ARMS 40L rear BUIS on my A4.

If you're worried about the next pres and the availability of the gun next year, go find a stripped lower. I already have an AR, but picked up a lower last weekend at a gun show just in case.

I can afford it. I like the LMT rifles, but they are more than I want to spend. I'd like to keep the gun under $1k. I can get a RRA for $919.

Fwiw I'd rather have the LMT bcg than the bravo company unit.

Me to. I think the M&P uses an LTM bcg, but not sure.

How come? All LMT bcg's are fired with a proof load before MPI, bravo company only proofs some of theirs. I think they're both top notch units but you might as well get the most testing for the same dollar.

The cost of .223 right now is definitely high. We're all kidding ourselves if we think we can wait it out and find it at a lower price down the line though. We have to just deal with it. The M&P15 is a great choice IMO.

What are you going to be using it for? Plinking, Comp, or is it going to be a safe queen?

Most people are ok buying the cheapest AR they can find. No reason to spend a grand on something you arent going to shoot everyday.

that's a great price, Gander Mtn. had then for $799 a few months back. I picked up a MP15a recently (troy buis, flat top) and am very happy with it.

Range, maybe some home defense even though I have the shotgun for that. And if course, if the zombies come. :eek4:
