I'm in that mode where I think I'd like to add an Ar-15 to my very small collection. (H & K USP 40 compact)

I've been doing my research, willing to pop for a completed rifle, and think I know what features I'm looking for. 5.56 round, 16" barrel, 1/7 or so twist, but from there I'm not sure what else I want.

Any input would be greatly appreciated. This thing would most likely collect dust and see occasional range use, but beyond that it's just an 'investment.'

More shit to break. You don't need a gas piston on AR's for normal use. Maybe if you're shooting full auto and need to go 1000's of rounds in between cleanings, but thats about it

More shit to break, like on an AK, I mean those break all the time :mamoru:

jk, I'm not really being a dick. In seriousness though, I think it keeps most of the crap from getting into your receiver and prevents the important parts from breaking.

I totally agree that it's not useful to most people, but I do think it's a better design....

Have you seen the size difference between an AK's gas piston and the one's they're making for AR's now?

I agree it's a better design, if it's built into the gun from the start, hell the gas piston is like half the reason I want a Masada. Fuck adding that shit on though.

I admit I have not scrutinized the system in person so I can't say that it's a well designed one. It jus tsounded like you were trashing the whole gas piston idea.. But yeah, like everything in the "aftermarket" type market, the first ones on sale are basically proof of concept, it will take a while before someone makes it really nice and functional I would imagine.

    .

I should've gone this way up front.
Instead I did carry handle and front sight post. Which I now have to remove.
