now is a good time as ever to start one, since i just got off vacation

    5'8 @ 189 lbs

    Goals:
    1) improve my MT
    2) get down to 160 w/o any particular dieting

I've been training regularly for about 6 months now and just recently added weightlifting after class. I plan on continuing this routine m-th for awhile and hope i keep it up. No real timetable on my weight, as long I'm enjoying my youth, i really don't care.

May I ask why not diet? Eating clean would help out So much. Not in just losing weight, but simply feeling better.

running long distance would be great for you. that will help in losing shape and conditioning your body for muay thai. Thai fighters run long ass distances every morning not for really for cardio, but because it strengthens their legs and conditions their body.

shin splints suck. if they're bothering you a lot try some stretches and maybe it's time to get a new pair of running shoes. Running on softer surfaces helps too. I used to run on grass when my shin were bothering me a lot.

If it's one of those half-assed inside leg kicks don't worry about it. Just eat it, step in, and counter. The only thing you have to watch out for is people like to use it as a set up to a over hand. Especially after Randy Couture vs Tim Sylvia when he hit that in the first few seconds of the fight. If it's a good hard kick to the inside of your leg, relax your leg, let the impact carry your leg back then fire back with that same leg right away. If you decide to just take it you want to slightly turn into it. That will put you in a better position absorb the impact and counter.

You're 5'8" so you're not going to tower over people. I'm guessing you don't have too much of a reach advantage either. Learn to bully them. Keep a lot of forward pressure. Throw a lot of combinations. Newer guys tend to throw combinations in just a particular order they learned then back away. Drill all those combinations and set ups. Thats essential. But when you're sparring all that should come naturally and in variety. Spar enough, and you will begin to see holes you can attack instead of always throwing the same combinations in the same order.
If it's the opposite and they're fucking tazmanian deviling your ass, teeps and straight punches will be your best friend.
