ok this might seem like a strange and novel concept but bear with me... you know that stuff you put in your mouth called "food"?

    eat more of it

seriously though, find some way to track your calorie intake (www.fitday.com) and increase it until you start gaining some pounds.

Yeah, food seems to work for obese people, athletes and bodybuilders, I'd give it a try.

your metabolism isn't "very high", you're just not eating as much as you think.
I used to think the same way.

okay, i've been looking over some stuff in the archives, and think im getting a bit of understanding on it, i guess im not really eating as much as i thought.

another problem is there isn't always alot of healthy food around my house, for me to eat 5-6 good meals in a day. any suggestions on cheaper but healthier foods that i can get my mom to buy?

Bah, I eat tuna often (10 cans a week I'd say) and I'm not dead yet. I'm going to get my bloodwork done soon though, just for the sake of it.

People should worry a lot more about eating clean than avoiding toxic products. There are a lot of obese people with diabetes and heart problems that are much more of a concern than the rare cases of mercury poisoning.

uhmmmm if this is you then you have bigger problems than weight issues. :fawk:

Eat a lot, pick a workout routine that actually works, and you will see results. Patience and consistency are necessary for this to work. Don't skip workouts, don't skip meals often, stay dedicated.

Have you read the article I posted ?
Anyway, as I said, I'm going to get my bloodwork done to see if the changes in my habits (both exercise and diet) modified something. I was already healthy to begin with but I know that my blood pressure has improved a little (from 120/62 to 112/68, I always had headrushes) and my resting heart rate lowered (from 63 to 55 :wiggle:). So we'll see.

I'm in the same boat as you. 20 yrs old, 6'3, started out at 158 lbs. I also thought my metabolism was just too high and that I couldnt gain weight, but then I realized how little I actually ate every day. I've been doing the 5x5 routine in the archives and I've gained 9lbs in about a month and a half. As for what to eat, you dont need to stick to just rice, tuna, chicken breast, etc... I went shopping yesterday and heres some of the stuff that I got, or stuff that I already have in my room

    Cereal (grape-nuts, frosted mini-wheats... i always get whole-grain cereals)
    100% whole-wheat bread and bagels
    Bananas
    Yogurt
    Triscuits
Pre-cooked chicken breast (yeah, I'm lazy)
    2% Milk
    Eggs
    Cottage Cheese (2% kind)
    Sliced Turkey
    Sliced Honey Ham
    Peanut Butter
    Quaker Old Fashioned Oats
Jell-O brand instant chocolate pudding (protein pudding ftw)
    Brown Rice
    Red and Green Bell Peppers
    Onion
    Kraft Mac & Cheese
    Tuna
    Nature Valley Granola Bars:yum:

Be sure to keep your food interesting and be sure to eat enough. Its very easy to go to the gym and work your ass off, but then not eat as much as you should. Good luck

this is what happened to me. I'm still working on my diet and will try to perfect it and have it working when I'm in college. Until then I'm trying to learn and play around with foods this summer.
