  1. Ok all I have is a few 10lb. weights. (I'm a small girl)
Anyways, I want some tips on how to tone my muscles (I don't want big muscles, just toned)...but I can't really afford to buy any equipment. Right now all I do is crunches, lift my weights and try to exercise my legs on the stairs....tip toes on the edge, then down, then repeat...(hard to explain)

    Any tips?? :hsd:

Don't worry about that, hormones make you big, lifting won't if your female. Look at the actesses like demi moore etc that lift a ton to get in shape for movies (gi jane for example) she didnt' get big, just toned, weights are good for women just like men, we jsut build muscle different.

spread out your muscle groups to maximize your workouts IMO, do push ups, crunches, and run/ jump rope for example, that way you hit a bunch of muscle groups getting your metabolisim kicking ass, don't just do crunches and run IMO, cause you won't be doing a thing for your back (very sexy part of a womans body) and shoulders and those flaby woman arms are the worst.

i used to be afraid of getting big too. but i do crunches, squats, push ups, leg raises, and swim. maybe you can look through a fitness magazine and get an idea of the kind of workouts you can do without machines. WBK know of any good machineless exercises for the back?

I would do really slow squats, ass to the floor with the weight in your hands. Weighted Pushups-(put some heavy books on your back or something), Level dips-( get two chairs and put your hands on one and feet on the other and dip down) crunhes, curls, skull crushers. buy a pull up bar that you can put on your door way and do pull ups and straight leg dead lifts.
Your diet is going to be the main thing that will make you look toned though.

Yeah, there are a bunch of girls at my gym that do alright weight. There is this one girl that probably weighs like 90 lbs and she benches 95 for reps.

:werd: i was a manager for the chick's tennis team in high school :hsugh: and they had to do "pushups".... aka get on the ground on your knees and then do pushups from that position. they called them "girl pushups"...amazing. it was difficult to get them to do 10 of those let alone 1 real pushup

run your ass off and watch what you eat. push ups and sit ups, then do lateral and front raises w/ those 10lbs for the shoulders.

If she's asking in the first place though how to tone... in all likelyhood regular pushups w/o added weight will suffice and she won't likely be able to do pullups either. Most women at most gyms can't do pullups.

That's really good for a woman.

Does that comment make me sound like a misogynist or sexist?
