Going to get my first tat tomorrow and I didn't know if you tip the artist or not, and how much?

YES! TIP! and dont be very stingey. who knows. maybe he will hook you up with a free tat one day. or he will be more willing to bump you out of the way. if the tat cost like $100-$150, i dont seen anything wrong with tipping $20. especially since its your first time, and he takes that into consideration and is more "gentle" with you. cant go wrong with a fat tip.

I was told a general rule of thumb is $20 for every $100 you spend, taken with a grain of salt ofcourse.

I would ask the artist what his/her alcohol of choice might be, subtly, then buy as he wants, that way you don't make him obligated to drink your pick.

that actually sounds pretty cool. i tattoo artists dont seem like the kinda people that are too picky when it comes to brew.

yet, going to extra mile to see if they have a fave brew doesn't hurt matters what so ever.

I usually tip about $50 or so and will swing by with some beer randomly to just hang out and say hi every so often. The owner of the shop has a usual 5-6 week wait, but he said anytime i need something done, just come by and he'll fit me in same day.

Tipping well works out for everyone involved :)

20 dollars for every hundred spent is good. I however tip 50 % my cousin tips 100 % just depends on the artist and the tipper. We go to the same artist always so it is in everyones best interest to keep him happy.

I've always tipped the tattoo guy, and I've always tipped very well.. my last tat, I tipped the guy 80% cause he gave me a hell of a deal. But just saturday we went to a new guy that we heard about through a friend to get my wife's tattoo redone and he wouldn't accept a tip. He said the best tip we could give him was to tell people if you like his work... I thought that was pretty cool....
