Do you guys roll with time limits (like 5 minute matches) or just go until submission? for my first year and a half, I only rolled with no time limit and from standing almost every time which I felt helped my cardio tremendously. Then my new instructor began doing 5 minute rolls from knees at his academy, and at my university its split up (start out with 5 minute rounds, and then finish up with no time limit from feet). Personally I think the timed rounds are good for tournaments but bad for practicing finishing people.

we roll with time limits at my judo club, but then again, once we go to the ground, if we can't work something in 10-15seconds, we get stood up anyways.

Timed limits here, I like them, you can get real good workouts outa em and it does try to emulate tournaments which is great imo.

Time limits are nice. Every time a round is up you can switch partners to get a better workout by going against different levels of competition to work on different things.

At the end of class we always do 5x6min rounds to finish up. When tournys are coming up we do them but always start standing. Normally we start on our knees though.
