looks like it's time to put together an upper for one of those two lowers i bought a while back.

    Les Baer Upper - Flattop w/out F/A w/ Port Cover http://www.lesbaer.com/pricnga.html - $129
16" Pencil Barrel - http://www.model1sales.com/item-det...age=bar16lw.gif&CFID=5801622&CFTOKEN=44351073 - $165 (or is the chrome lined worth the extra $35?)
    CF Handguard - http://www.hiperform.com/hand-guards.htm - $125
Fulton Slickside BCG Complete - $165
    Larue Buis - http://stores.homestead.com/Laruetactical/Detail.bok?no=29 - $89
    Gas Tube & Roll Pin - http://www.model1sales.com/item-detail.cfm?ID=BAP003&storeid=1&image=barasparts.gif - $12

    What else do I need?

Other than that, all I'll need is a light. Anyone know where I can find some lengths of pic rail to mount a light?

most places sell it with gas tube, its goes in the fsb and gas tube to keep it in place (see pencil tip)

 (assuming you have tools and such - that roll pin is pretty tiny, need an action block, etc)

Also, I suppose I don't need a flash hider. Are there any advertised "light weight" ones or are they just pick what you think looks cooler? :o

I know folks with tools so that shouldn't be an issue. :o

i'd go with a Phantom or Vortex.

if you're planning on mounting a suppressor down the line, you might want to get one that goes hand in hand with the can.

    i.e. surefire, ops inc, etc

    Building an ultralight build?

    That should be fun.

Don't know much about ER Shaw's AR barrels, Their regular rifle tubes are regarded as tomato stakes though, FWIW. I'd skip the chroming, because I personally wouldn't have enough faith in them to get it very uniform, thus affecting accuracy.

doubtful any cans are in my future. not that i don't want one but i don't want to mess with any nfa stuff. i had the itch to sbr an ak build and sbs one of my 870s but i just don't feel it's necessary, same as a supressor.

yep. i'd like to get total weight < 6lbs and i think it should be doable.

    suggest another manufa. pencil barrel?

Mikulec compensator/muzzle brake... About $35 and really helps flatten the recoil impulse. Especially on a 16" barrel with the carbine gas system.

I would also get a better stock. Those m4 stocks have too much flex. The magpul ctr's are faily inexpensive. I also like the ace m4 socom.

These are my choices for lightweight or budget builds for others. Not my recomendations for race gun builds.

You bought complete lowers and now you're talking about building an upper? You don't know what a roll pin is?

    Umm... :hsugh:
