First of all, hello everyone, ive been lurking here quite a bit, its a good forum, i should definitly start posting here, maybe ill even start a training log

How long do you guys typicaly spend bulking and cutting? also whats the shortest time periods you would recomend for each?

I just started an internship job and i finally have money to buy what i need to bulk up, but since its summer i want to stay nice and cut.

Over about a year I cut down from 215 to 170, that was several months ago. Since then ive gone back up to about 180, and it seems to me my body fat is the same or lower then at 170, so my attempt at clean bulking is working. But i was wondering if i would be better off with heavier bulking periods and then short fat burning periods, if that would average out to better gains in the end.

people spend as long as they need to attain whatever it is they are trying to attain

what takes 3 weeks for one person may take 8 weeks for another etc

BTW, it sounds like you are making good progress. Keep doing what you are doing if you've added 10lbs with minimal fat gains. Can't beat that.

    and in response to abomb

I dont have any definite goals, perhaps i need some, but really im just trying to build lean mass and stay cut. wondering if i should continue slow gains on a clean diet or try and cycle it somewhat

Thanks, i started on creatine, which i think has really helped, but probably also means a good chunk of that weight is just water

thanks for the welcome evo! I dont know what your name means but as a gearhead i think of lancer evolution (evo) and honda prelude (lude), interesting combo haha

    dot.

After a few months of not having it, I took 3 pills, 3x the first day and it was like a fog was lifted from my brain.

I don't feel any different in my joints or well being. Maybe I get enough of it directly from fish.

9 per day. You won't get much out of tuna but the salmon is good.

Yeah... creatine can and should be continues even when cutting.

Not a fan of CLA myself but don't know about others here.

As for your original question. I prefer to really only try and put on weight maybe 4 months a year and cut and maintain the rest. Probably not the best suggestion for someone wanting to put on a lot of mass.

well i dont want to put on a whole lot of mass, and only lean mass

maybe 200lbs would be a good goal for me, i feel like 20 more lbs of muscle is a lot

Well you won't get there by accident. Aim for 220 and you might hit 200 at some point.

But once you get there, you'll want more.

what would really help me put on some weight is if i worked my legs more, i rarely do. probably do that today, i wanted to do shoulders but im wicked sore all up there. My right shoulder hurts up in the front from benching on monday, makes me scared for my rotator cuff

of course my legs hurt too, played some intense ultimate frisbee yesterday, i just kinda hurt all over. ill work em anyway
