OK so I just installed a 250GB HDD into my MBP. I also have a 250GB external USB HDD and an AirPort Extreme with USB interface. I understand that I can run an external HDD through that and use it as a network accessible storage device. Does anybody know if TimeMachine can back up my laptop through the network to that external HDD? If so, does anyone know if I can initially sync it locally, then run it through the network (copying 50gb of data through 802.11G would take forever)? I figured I'd ask before I tried it (have to relocate some data from the drive before it can be used).

Time Machine won't back up via AirPort Extreme, but if you have a second Macintosh, you can share the driver and Time Machine will backup with that.
