I only use the onboard flash when i am taking snapshots or i just really want to capture something (like this dog that was standing up for me when he saw the camera....looked like he had done it before)...back on topic here...so i don't want to spend over $300 and i was looking at the canon 420 and the sigma 500 and 500 super..anyone have any recommendations?

check the reviews on www.fredmiranda.com. The Sigma 500 Super is a great flash and usually recommended over the 550x.
