I'm trying to install the tightvnc server on linux (SuSE 8.1) with a rpm install but it gives a dependancy failure on /sbin/service (it's missing). Can anybody tell me what /sbin/service is and what I need to do to get tightvnc installed.

    do a search on rpmfind.net

I found out that /sbin/service is Red Hat specific so I can't do the rpm install of tightvnc on my SuSE 8.1 install

I installed the vnc package which came on one of the install cds. After installation I tried to connect from my laptop (runs winXP Pro) and I got a grey screen with the black x mouse cursor but then it does nothing.

What does your ./.vnc/xstartup look like?

Mine executes the startkde script. But if your X is configured to load your desktop, use startx.

I'm gonna look at that when I get home (I'm at the office now) but I think this might just be the tip I need.:)
