    Hey guys,

I am running an iMac I bought about 5 years ago, with a 1.25GHz Power PC G4 Processor - dated, I know, but Ilove it. A few years back I had an issue with my hdd and got it replaced, and now when I'm on it, I hear a little ticking sound.

Anyone know what this is? Is it time to get a new harddrive?

Is it still working? Usually when I hear a clicking sound the drive is already dead.

If it is working I'd get your important data backed up ASAP if you don't already have a backup.

Also, check it's SMART status with a utility program.

It is still working. The clicking is intermittent. Now I don't hear it.

I already have everything backed up on my Seagate Free Agent.

Can you elaborate about the SMART status and utility program?

Basically, just start Disk Utility and click on the drive and it should show the S.M.A.R.T status as either "Verified" or "Failing"

    There's more detailed instructions here:

I think some third party apps might give you more info, but I'm not really sure.
